BIKE CHECK: Pinner's Attakwas Signal Elite

The Signal Elite takes on South Africa's Toughest One Day Race

"If it's tough enough for the Attakwas, the Signal Elite is tough enough for you!" - Oli Munnik

FRAME

The Signal Elite is built from X6 hydroform alloy tubing, with internal cable routing  keeping the frame neat and tidy.

SUSPENSION

The Elite is specced with a RockShox XC30 air fork offering 100mm of travel. A handle bar mounted remote lock-out lever makes switching between modes effortless, while also ensuring your hands stay on the grips - critical on rough, technical terrain.

DRIVETRAIN

A 2x11 Shimano SLX drivetrain ensures a wide gear range that can take care of even the steepest gradients like those found in the Attakwas Kloof. Oli explains that he spent of lot of time in the small blade which made light work of gradients in excess of 20%.

WHEELS & TYRES

Oli's tyres are fitted to a set of custom Signal MD21 tubeless ready Alex Rims, and were more than able to negotiate the Attakwas Extreme.

We all know how important tyres are, especially in events like the Attakwas where the route is littered with sharp rocks. Oli chose to fit a set of high volume 29x2.35" Maxxis Rekon Race tyres. Tubeless ready and constructed with Maxxis' proven EXO puncture protection, the Rekon Race helped to smooth out the rugged terrain.

(Please Note: a set of CST Camber 29x2.25" tubeless ready tyres come standard on the Elite)

The Rekon Race's fast rolling centre knobs are complimented by well placed transition and shoulder knobs, which keep traction consistent when cornering.

PARTS

The Signal Elite is specced with a range of SRT - Signal Racing Tech - components, which include a 720mm handle bar, 80mm stem, 31.6mm seat post and custom saddle. All parts perfectly compliment the frame's black and white colourway, creating a seamless look.

A pair of Shimano XT trail pedals completes the build.
