Bikes, Burgers & Milkshakes

After working up an appetite, during a late afternoon community ride and skills session with over 60 rippers, Spur Schools MTB League (SSMTBL) ambassador Alan Hatherly joined 11 lucky League Riders at the Silver Cloud Spur in Newton Park for a dinner they'll never forget.

As part of his ambassador role with the SSMTBL, Alan will host +-10 league riders at various Spur Restaurants around South Africa, outside of his official race season, which involves a lot of travelling.

Signal Bikes joined Alan for the Port Elizabeth leg of his #DinnerWithAlan Tour where 11 keen-as-mustard League Riders were chosen via a SSMTBL social media competition to talk all things bikes over their favourite Spur meal and a double thick milkshake!

Learning from the Best

The evening provided the perfect environment for the youngsters to fire questions at Alan, to which he provided detailed answers ... on his training, the demands of travelling, life as a pro, managing social media, his pet parrot ... as well as how to communicate with potential sponsors. Alan was on superb form, operating for over three hours without taking a single break! Weapon.

It is remarkable to hear how knowledgable the kids are when it comes to training and the associated jargon. However, their eagerness and willingness to learn from one of South Africa's most decorated mountain bikers was something to behold!

A big thank you to Kenneth and his team at the Silver Cloud Spur in Newton Park, PE for hosting us and providing superb food, drinks and service.

Visit them when you're next in town at Westway Centre, 349 Cape Rd, Newton Park, Port Elizabeth, 6055.
